Patsy Nan Barnett Winsor

Patsy Nan Barnett Winsor, age 83, resident of McKinney, TX, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014, after a long illness. Patsy was born on May 22, 1930, in Clarita, OK, to Leon T. and Willie Dell (neé McPhetridge) Barnett, the first of their five children. She grew up primarily in Coal County, graduating from Coalgate High School in 1947. Patsy graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1951 with a degree in Vocational Home Economics. Her first teaching job was in Clayton, OK. Patsy married Paul Winsor in 1951 at Perry, OK. Together they had four children, whom they raised in Coalgate. Patsy served on the Board of Education for Coalgate Public Schools in the 1970s, and was President of the school board when funding was secured for Wallace Byrd Middle School. She also helped secure funding and staff for the school district’s first gifted and talented education program. Patsy returned to Oklahoma State University in 1978, graduating in 1980 with a Master of Arts in Housing and Interior Design. She then spent 15 years teaching at the university level, gaining tenure at the University of Arkansas before her retirement in 1995. Patsy returned to Oklahoma, living in Oklahoma City until 2006. Upon the death of her mother, she moved into a cottage of her own design in McKinney, Texas, where she remained until a few days before her passing.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Billie Jane Barnett, and her brother-in-law, Ab Justice.

Patsy is survived by her children, Timothy Glenn Winsor of Seattle, WA, Gaynelle Winsor Drake and husband, Dale of McKinney, TX, Nancy Dell Winsor Lambert and husband, Jim of Ada, OK, Michele Winsor Brown and husband, Doug of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Katy Bettner and husband, Paul and Caroline Calkins and husband, David, all of McKinney, TX, Luke Winsor and wife, Susan and James Winsor, all of Seattle, WA, Abigail Shepard and husband, Nicholas of Frisco, Texas, Nicholas and Jacob Brown of Fort Worth, TX, and Lanie Lambert of Ada, OK; eight great-grandchildren residing in Texas and Washington; sisters, Peggy Jean Williams and husband, Bob and Robbienelle Justice, and brother, James R. Barnett and wife, Diane, all of Oklahoma City, OK; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Coalgate Cemetery in Coalgate, Oklahoma.
