Patsy Gayle Reins

Mrs. Patsy Gayle (Pat) Reins, age 73, of McKinney, Texas, passed on to her next life on January 10, 2010. Throughout a long struggle with her illnesses, she maintained a wonderful, uplifting attitude and a zest for life. Pat was born on February 16, 1936, in McKinney, Texas, to Alvin Royce and Goldie Alleen (Crutcher) Wynn. On December 21, 1968, she married Erich Reins. Pat graduated from the University of North Texas, with a BBA degree and a Master’s Degree in Education. Pat was a teacher for 31 years in Dallas, Plano, and McKinney. She was a pioneer in the team teaching concept, winning the Ross Perot Teacher of the Year Award for innovative teaching in 1974. Later, her passion turned to teaching children how to read, helping her students develop a positive self-esteem while learning to become fluent readers. She gave her young students the skills and motivation to develop to their fullest potential. Pat was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where she continued to share her talents by teaching summer school for the children. She also participated in many diverse volunteer activities, including the Heard-Craig Guild, Meals-on Wheels, local charities, several book clubs, and an investment club. Pat is survived by her husband Erich; her daughters Laura Harkey and Leslie McCord and her husband Rick; granddaughters Lindsey and Lacey Harkey; sister Barbara Lindsay and her husband Jim; niece Jennifer Lindsay; aunts Virginia Ruth Hayes and Jettie Bell Hamilton; and many cousins. Preceding her in death were, her parents, Alvin and Alleen Wynn, and son-in-law, Lane Harkey. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2010, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 511 Foote St., in McKinney, Texas. The Rev. Canon Rob Smith will officiate. A reception will be held immediately after the service. There will also be a visitation for friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, located on US 75 in Allen. Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Holy Family School, the Samaritan Inn or the Children & Community Health Center, all of McKinney.
