IN LOVING MEMORY

Pat Klassen

Aug 05 1931 - Oct 22 2014

Pat Klassen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 after a dignified & courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 83 years old. Pat spent the last several years comforted by Vernon, family, and gracious caregivers. Pat was born August 5th, 1931 to Archie and Edith Cameron in Beaumont, Texas. Pat was a loving wife, mother, and life-long member of the Methodist Church. She married Vernon Klassen in Beaumont TX on June 21, 1952. Pat is preceded in death by her sister Cecil Ann. She is survived by her adoring husband Vernon, daughter Karen, son Kyle and his wife Jennifer, two grandchildren Crystal & Paige, niece Ann Webb and her husband Dennis.

Growing up Pat was well known for her musical talent as an accomplished soloist and a member of numerous church choirs. Pat was a member of a traveling group called the Melody Maids. Her college years were spent at Lamar University, Northwestern, and The University of Houston where she earned a Master’s degree in Education. She went on to be an outstanding elementary school teacher for over 25 years beginning in Lake Charles LA, and then finally retiring after 16 years in McKinney, TX, where she was recognized as a Teacher of the Year.

When not traveling around the world with Vernon to visit Europe, North Africa, Australia, and Southeast Asia; Pat was active in the much smaller community of McKinney back in the early 80s. Pat always enjoyed collecting antiques and primitives which eventually led to her well known shop, Top of the Roost, located in Downtown McKinney for 12 years.

Pat was extraordinarily cared for and loved at home until her passing. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2014 at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney. The Klassen family invites you join them in a Celebration of Pat’s Life at Spoons Café in Downtown McKinney on Friday, at 4:00, following the graveside service.  Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Thursday, to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The Klassen family appreciates donations to the McKinney Education Foundation in honor of the Pat Klassen Scholarship.
