Pastor Minnie Hawthorne-Ewing

Pastor Minnie Hawthorne-Ewing, D.D., age 69, of Plano, Texas, passed away on May 7, 2015.  She was born on December 30, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas to Iverlee Matthew and Helen Louise (Edwards) Bookman. 

Pastor Minnie and Pastor Robert Hawthorne founded Day Star Deliverence Ministries in 1995.  Pastor Minnie loved the word of God and building disciples.  She adored her church family.  Her legacy of giving was in the inspiration behind Minnie’s Food Pantry.  Over 3.4 million meals and counting have been served in her honor.

She is survived by her children, Robert Wayne Bennett of Dallas, Texas, Gerald Hawthorne of Plano, Texas, Tony Bennett of Tyler, Texas, Cheryl Jackson and husband Artis of Plano, Texas, Eric Hawthorne of Allen, Texas, Lynette Shofner of Plano, Texas, Darius Hawthorne and wife Chandra of Allen, Texas; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Vivian Louise Benjamin of Dallas, Texas; and host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

Pastor Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, Iverlee Bookman and Helen Louise Edwards; husbands, Robert Hawthorne and Nathaniel Ewing; and brother, James Lee Bookman.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at The Potter’s House North Dallas, 10501 Main Street, Frisco, Texas.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends during a visitation being held from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
