Pastor Max Henry Smiley, age 85, of Allen, Texas, passed away January 6, 2016. Pastor Smiley was born May 25, 1930, in Wood County, Texas, to Maldon Madison and Lillian Pearl (Harrison) Smiley. He married Wanda Harris on September 17, 1954 in Garland, Texas. Pastor Smiley grew up in Wood County, Texas and graduated from Mineola High School in 1949. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. Pastor Smiley was ordained on September 28, 1938 and served churches in Decatur, Borger, Houston, Sweetwater, and Edgewood, Texas, and retired from the ministry in 2009. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and was an avid fisherman, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Spaeth and husband, Gary of Lancaster, California and Jennifer Hendrix and husband, Alan of Allen, Texas; grandson, Brent Hendrix of Allen, Texas; granddaughter, Camille Hendrix, also of Allen; sisters, Joan Birch of Rowlett, Texas, Virginia Walls of Garland, Texas, and Marsha Inerarity of Lindale, Texas; and a host of other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Private graveside services will be held later that day at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5:00 – 7:00p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.
