Oran Keen Simpson, Jr.

Oran Keen Simpson, Jr. passed away November 13, 2014, at the age of 89. He was born April 9, 1925, to Oran Keen, Sr. and Exie (Carmichael) Simpson in Westminster, Texas.

Keen graduated from Boyd High School in McKinney and attended Texas A&M University. On November 6, 1947, Keen married his first wife, Wanda Reed in McKinney, Texas. He worked for Borden Food Company for 22 years. They were members of the First Baptist Church of McKinney, where he served as a deacon for many years. In 1971, Keen, Wanda and daughter Shelley moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he managed the Borden Foods office. After two years, they moved to Carrollton, Texas, where he resided until 1999. On March 6, 1999, he married Freddie Self and moved to Plano, Texas. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with their families.

He is survived by his wife, Freddie Simpson of Plano, Texas; daughter, Deidra Washam and husband Roy of Clifton, Texas; grandchildren, Wendi Kimpton, and husband Gene of Carrollton, Texas, Tiffani Justus, and husband Jack of Whitney, Texas, and Tierni Driessner, and husband Chad also of Whitney; great-grandchildren, Heather and Bryan, Jaeden, Reed and wife, Olivia, Jackson, Rachel, Jacob, McKenna and Kadyn; great-great grandson, Aiden; sister Sylvia of Round Rock, Texas; a niece, many nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and all the great-greats whom he loved dearly.

Keen was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles, first wife Wanda and daughter Shelley Legendre.

A service celebrating his life will be held 2:00p.m., Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment is to immediately follow at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. The family will receive friends during a visitation Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
