Opal L. Combest

Opal Combest, age 90, of Fairview, Texas, passed away June 8, 2016.  Opal was born December 26, 1925, in Durant, Oklahoma, to Samuel Arnold Teater and Snowy Lee (Dawson).  Opal married Joe Combest on August 10, 1945.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lucas, a past member of the McKinney Business and Professional Women’s Club, past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion #96, past Chaplain and held various other offices for the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, #2150, past Pink Lady volunteer at Collin Memorial Hospital, and PTA Mother for many years.  Opal loved to volunteer and help people any way possible.  She was a Mother and Grandmother to her own children, but Mom, MaMa Opal, and Grandma Opal to many.  Opal was a very strong willed woman.  She was a cancer survivor, but her biggest battle in her later years was Alzheimer’s.  We all know that she is dancing with the angels now.

 

She is survived by her children, Don Combest and wife Frances of Athens, Alabama, Shirley Combest Matheny and husband, Roy of Kingston, Oklahoma, Michael Combest and wife, Cynthia of Allen, Texas, and Lisa Combest Conley and husband, Shawn of Fairview, Texas; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters; her beloved Sassy; and many loving family and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, three brothers, and one sister.

 

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen.  The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 -8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.
