O. W. "Buck" Spurgin

O. W. “Buck” Spurgin, age 95, of Trenton, Texas, passed away May 24, 2011 in Trenton. Buck was born October 18, 1915, in Winningkoff, Texas, to Ollie A. and Elizabeth (Funderburg) Spurgin. He married Mary Acuff on August 10, 1941, in Dallas, Texas. Buck was a farmer and served on the board of directors for the McKinney Co-op Gin Association. He was an officer in the McKinney Pinto Riding Club. Buck proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He attended Trenton Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Mary Spurgin of Trenton, Texas; son, Wyatt Spurgin and wife, Theresa of Sherman, Texas; daughters, Luana Guthrie and husband, Bill of Leonard, Texas and Deborah Henderson and husband, John also of Leonard; grandchildren, Katie Guthrie Shehan, Paul Rueben Guthrie, Justin Spurgin Henderson, Mary Elizabeth Vinsonhaler, Jeremy Vinsonhaler, Dylan Paul Spurgin, Talitha Jo Spurgin White, and Nathan Joel Spurgin; great-grandchildren, Amanda Elizabeth Shehan, Sadie Lynn White, Brooke Christine White, Cameron Jeremiah Vinsonhaler, and Carlie Paige Vinsonhaler; great-great grandson, A. J. Shehan; brothers, O. E. Cotton Spurgin of McKinney, Texas, Truman Spurgin of Lucas, Texas, Billy Spurgin of Allen, Texas, and Dale Spurgin of Lucas, Texas; sister, Marie Phelps of Allen, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Julius Paul Spurgin, brothers, Noble, Sandy, and Jack Spurgin, and sister, Velda Spurgin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Dale Spurgin and Rev. Keith Spurgin offiiciating. Interment will follow at Fitzhugh Cemetery in Forest Grove Community, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
