Nita Skaines

Nita Skaines, age 92, of Fairview, Texas, passed away December 26, 2012, in Allen, Texas. Nita was born August 23, 1920, in Jasper County, Mississippi, to Jessie Ernest and Mamie (Culpepper) McMullan. She married Wyatt Skaines on April 2, 1965, in Augusta, Georgia. Nita worked for the federal government for thirty-two years in VA Loan Guaranty and Medical Research departments. After retirement, she spent ten years as secretary at Emmanuel Methodist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a former member of the Eastern Star in Heidelberg, Mississippi. Nita was very active in the choir of every church where she was a member. She assisted in the music department and sang in the choir at Asbury Methodist Church in Memphis. She also sang with the First Generation Singers of Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis, Tennessee as they performed for various nursing homes in Memphis. Nita was a member of First United Methodist Church in McKinney.

She is survived by her husband, Wyatt Skaines of Fairview, Texas; daughter, Sandra Woodruff of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Jodi Bergstrom and husband, Brian of Murphy, Texas and Jeremy Woodruff and wife, Angela of Victoria, Texas; great-grandchildren, Cole Bergstrom, Trey Bergstrom, Bryn Bergstrom, and Evan Woodruff; and numerous other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Eddie, Clarence, Jack, and William McMullan, and sister, Annie Mae Ellis.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas. An inurnment will be held at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas at a later date.
