Nieves Mejia, age 85, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on December 2, 2015. He was born September 6, 1930, in Mexico, to Andres and Cecilia (Camacho) Mejia. Nieves was a rancher in Mexico for 33 years before moving to the United States. Mr. Mejia was an outdoorsman. He loved sitting outside, picking up his backyard, watching wrestling and the Texas Ranger games. Nieves was always checking on his family members tires and telling them when it was time for replacement. Mr. Mejia had a collection of horses and a wide variety of tools that he always used. But most of all, he loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Rafaela H. Mejia of McKinney, Texas; children, Jesus Mejia of McKinney, Texas, Zulema Duran and husband Abelardo of San Antonio, Texas, Antonia Loza and husband Efren of McKinney, Texas, Jose Guadalupe Mejia and wife Mary of McKinney, Texas, Alma Leticia Compean and husband Miguel of Odessa, Texas, Cecilia Najera and husband Ramon of Princeton, Texas, Alma Rosa Valle and husband Israel of McKinney, Texas, Alejandra Mejia and Jorge Andres Mejia of McKinney, Texas; siblings, Jesus Mejia of Mexico, Armando Mejia of Mexico, Eva Mejia of Mexico, Gloria Mejia of San Antonio, Texas, Dora Mejia of Mexico and Heriberto Mejia of Mexico; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; many other loving relatives and friends.
Nieves is preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Cecilia Mejia; brother, Luis Mejia; sister, Consuelo Mejia; daughter-in-law, Yolanda Mejia; grandchildren, Juanita Duran and Abelardo Duran, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, December 7, 2015 at St. Michael Catholic Church in McKinney, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation being held from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Sunday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
