Nelson Miles McCord, Jr.

Nelson Miles McCord, Jr. was born April 14, 1927 in Dallas, TX and died in Garland on January 27, 2015.

He is survived by his son Nelson Miles McCord, III and his wife Mary, and a daughter Vickie Taylor and her husband Robert. He had six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Effie Harnden of Searcy, Arkansas.

Nelson was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Vonelle McCord and his parents Nelson McCord, Sr. and Effie Black McCord and a brother Robert McCord.

He attended Abilene Christian University and Texas A&M University before graduating from SMU. He served his country in the U.S. Navy at the close of the Second World War.

Nelson was the owner and president of McCord Printing Company in Dallas, TX for 49 years. He served in the Civitan International and was a member and one-time president of the Richardson Senior Golf League.

He was a member of Churches of Christ and served as one of the original elders of the Waterview Church of Christ in Richardson. He preached for the Climax Church of Christ for several years.

A family burial will take place on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Restland Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Waterview Church of Christ, 1409 N. Waterview Richardson, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.

A special thank you goes to the staff of the Stoneybrook Memory Care Center, where Nelson spent the last days of his life. Appreciation is also extended to the Visiting Nurses Association.
