Nov 22 2008
Neil L. Halliday, Jr., son of the late Neil Lilburn and Thelma Yancey Halliday, was born on September 20, 1948, in Lexington, KY. He departed this life peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, November 22, at home with his family by his side. Neil attended public schools in Washington, D.C. He earned his Bachelors degree in Management at Northeastern University and his Masters degree in Finance and Investments from George Washington University. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Neil graduated from the U. S. Coast Guard Academy. He served as a Lt Commander for seven years and met his wife Donna while stationed in New Orleans. Neil joined the corporate executive ranks as an Assistant Controller for Xerox Corporation. He spent nine years in Rochester, NY with the firm before moving to Washington, D.C. where he worked for American Diabetes Association as Vice President of Administrative and Information Services. In 2000, Neil and his family moved to Dallas where he joined the American Heart Association national headquarters as Vice President of Information Technology. He would often say that he moved so that he could play golf year round. After retiring from the association, Neil worked with Julien Engineering as Executive Vice President to pursue his dream of expanding the company to Dallas. It was a very special time for Donna and Neil because they were able to spend quality time together. Neil had a passion for golf and was a member of the Prestonwood Country Club and Pro-Duffers USA, an organization whose members cherished his camaraderie and friendship.
Neil lives in the loving memory of his wife, Donna and daughter Nicole; son Neil L. Halliday, III; grandsons, Neil and Sean Halliday of Rochester, NY; his sister, Antoinette Schooler of Washington, D.C.; and a host of brothers and sisters-in-law and extended family members and friends who loved him dearly. Neil was a devoted husband and father whose life revolved around his family and friends. He was a devoted son. When his dad was ill, he brought him to Dallas to receive medical treatment and after his father died he brought his mother to Dallas to live with him until her death in 2004. With all of his accomplishments, Neil’s children were his pride and joy. He was so proud of the man his son had become and the way he cared for his 2 sons. His eyes lit up whenever Nicole came into the room. He went upstairs every night to Nicole’s room to say goodnight until his legs were too weak to carry him. He sent her a text every night when she went off to college. Neil was one of the funniest, smartest and most loving men the world has ever known. He was loved by many and words can not begin to express how much we will miss him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas beginning at
11:00 AM on Saturday, November
29, 2008 with Father Stanislaus
Muthu presiding. Friends are invited
to pay their respects at the
Church from 10:00 AM prior to
