IN LOVING MEMORY

Neil Davis, Sr.

Sep 26 1956 - Oct 22 2010

Neil Eugene Davis, Sr., 54, of McKinney, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on October 22, 2010 after suffering a stroke. Neil was born on September 26, 1956 to Patricia Ann (McNeil) Crump and William Leland Crump in Haynesville, Louisiana. At age 10, Neil moved to his mother’s hometown of McKinney after his father’s death. His mother married the Honorable Don Weaver Davis in 1968, and Judge Davis adopted Neil and his brother and sister. Neil attended McKinney schools, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and graduated from McKinney High School in 1974. He attended North Texas State University and Texas Christian University. A born salesman, he worked for his family’s real estate business and later worked in the car business, most recently at Eldorado Motors of McKinney. In 1978, Neil married Jennifer Ruth Wilson of McKinney. They had three children, Rachel, Don, and Cotton, and countless dogs, including his favorite, a Boston terrier named Velvet. Neil and Jennifer divorced in 2000 but remained friends. Neil was a friend to everyone and was quick to assign nicknames to his friends and family. He loved McKinney and could easily be spotted driving in the Historic District in his 1992, in-need-of-repair Range Rover or hanging out in Downtown with his lifetime friend, Carrie (Coats) Fowler. He loved spending time with his many close friends, most of whom he had known since childhood. He also enjoyed classic rock concerts, conservative politics, golf, movies, spending time at Lake Texoma, and his legendary New Year’s Eve parties. A devoted grandfather to Don Weaver (“Trey”) Davis III, Neil could often be found with his grandson at Towne Lake or McDonald’s. Neil was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ann (McNeil) Crump Davis; father, William Leland Crump; adopted father, the Honorable Don Weaver Davis; aunts, Judy McNeil, Sue McNeil, Patsy (Crump) Ballard, Lillian (Crump) Dixon, Corneille (Crump) Parrin, and Janelle Crump; uncles, William (“Billy”) McNeil, Troy Kennedy, and Jack Crump. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Wilson (Davis) Pittman and husband, Ryan, of McKinney; son, Don Weaver Davis II and wife, Megan, of McKinney; son, Neil Eugene (“Cotton”) Davis, Jr. of McKinney; grandson, Don Weaver (“Trey”) Davis III of McKinney; sister, Connie Sue (Davis) Roberts and husband, Booth, of Plano; brother, John Stephen Davis of Cleburne; niece, Ruby Davis of McKinney; aunt, Ruth (McNeil) Kennedy of Fairview; aunt, Linda (McNeil) Dugger and husband, James, of Plano; aunt, Sherry (McNeil) Ferrill and husband, Robert, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; aunt, Linda (Crump) White and husband, Bill, of Arlington; and many nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010 at First Methodist Church in McKinney. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Holy Family School, 500 Throckmorton Street, McKinney, Texas 75069-2322, (972) 562-5476. Neil was a Christian and his faith was very important to him. As of October 22, 2010, God likely has a new nickname.
