MSgt. Jerry Robert Melton, Ret., age 68, of McKinney, Texas passed away February 8, 2009. He was born October 16, 1940 in Sherman, Texas to T.A. and Effie Lee (Sullivan) Melton. On October 5, 1985 he married Earnestine Smith Sanderson in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jerry proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War and was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans in McKinney, Post 38. Jerry was a member of Waddill Street Baptist Church. He is survived by his sons, Jerry Robert Melton II and wife, Stephanie of Archer, Florida, James Noble Melton of Largo, Florida; step-sons, Mark Sanderson and wife, Joyce of McKinney and Steve Sanderson of Richardson; grandchildren, Adam and Brittany Melton; step-grandchildren, Peter Sanderson, Tina Campbell, Burney and Ginger Roberts, Amy and Josh Deaton; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas J. Melton and his wife Mary Ann of Slidell, Louisiana and his sister, Joyce Reynolds and her husband Dr. John Reynolds of Athens, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Earnestine Melton. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2009, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Dr. Woody Wilson officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Waddill Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 1401 N. Waddill Street, McKinney, Texas 75069.
