Monty Philips, age 64, of McKinney, Texas, passed away August 18, 2009, in McKinney. Monty was born August 6, 1945 in McKinney to Ben C. and Gussie (McWhirter) Philips. He graduated from McKinney High School. Monty was the owner of Philips Automatic Transmission Shop in McKinney for many years. He also attended Grace Christian Fellowship in Burleson, Texas. Monty was known locally for his awesome singing voice. He was a free spirit who lived life to the fullest and loved his family with all of his heart. He is survived by his son, Alex Philips and his wife, Kristy, of Burleson, Texas; daughter, Melissa Pate and her husband, Mark, also of Burleson; grandchildren, Madison Philips, William Dunaway, and a future grandchild; sisters, Pat Bates of Howe, Texas and Stephanie Talbot of Duncanville, Texas; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sandra Anderson. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M., Friday, August 21, 2009, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas with Rev. Troy Smith officiating. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 7:00 P.M., Thursday evening at the funeral home.
