Mona Lucile Jeffries

On January 11th, Mona Lucile Jeffries left this life to be with our Lord and Savior.

Mona was born in Pampa, Texas on December 24, 1925 to Daniel and Ella May Burleson. Her family moved to Hutchinson County, where she lived on a dry-land farm. She attended elementary school in a one-room school house and graduated from high school in Spearman, Texas. She loved to taut that she had “lived through dust, dirt and the snow storms in the Panhandle.”

Mona attended Pasadena Playhouse Association School of Theater and was a member of the Alpha Psi Omega Dramatic Fraternity. And, OH HOW SHE LOVED TO DANCE. She was Master of Ceremonies for a number of variety shows. Among her hobbies, she loved reading, painting and talking. She married Nathan “N.C.” Jeffries on November 22, 1944, and after having three children, she returned to West Texas State University to complete her Bachelor of Science. She taught elementary education as well as speech for many years, and retired in 1985 from the Richardson Independent School District. She lived in many Texas cities: Spearman, Borger, Plano, Hemphill, Allen, Wylie, Gunter and Tyler.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Ella May Burleson, her sister Dani Burleson, brother Andy Burleson, and husband Nathan Jeffries. She is survived by her sister Georgia and husband Dennis Kern of Amarillo, son Ron and wife Tonia Jeffries of Frankston, daughter Sandra Benton of Wylie, daughter Andrea Farmer of Sherman, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 2pm Thursday, January 15th at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home and Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch & Girlstown, U.S.A.
