Mike Griffin passed away at his home in Gunter, Texas on June 26, 2006. He was 61. Mike was born on October 29, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, to Vassa Bennett and Alma Alyne (Watson) Griffin. After graduating from Frisco High School in 1963, he received his undergraduate degree in 1967 and Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1970 from Southern Methodist University. Following law school, he was selected to serve as the briefing attorney for the Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, Robert J. Calvert. At the conclusion of his clerkship, he began his 35 year law practice in Denton, Texas. At the time of his death, he was the senior partner in the law firm of Griffin & Jones. Mike was a longtime attorney for the Denton Independent School District, and he served for 6 years as a member of the Frisco School Board. Mike married Amy Cole on May 2, 1974 in Denton, Texas. A few years later they returned to the Griffin home place in Frisco where they raised son, Ryan Griffin of Celina, Texas, and daughters, Lauren Griffin and Amanda Griffin, both of Dallas, Texas. In addition to Amy and his children, Mike is survived by his sister, Linda Griffin Feld of Prosper, Texas and many other loving relatives and friends. Mike had a life long love of real estate which was rooted in his family’s history as being one of the pioneer settlers of the Camey, Hebron, and Frisco communities of Denton and Collin Counties. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Bennett Griffin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Locust, Denton, Texas 76201, with Rev. Judith Reedy officiating. Pallbearers will be Michelle Jones, Ben West, David Schuford, Bill Wood, Bill Rasor, Gary Hefner, Charles McKissick, Sennett Kirk, David Dennison, Bryan Cole, Matthew Cole, Jim Cole, Ken Feld, and Tony Jeffrey.
