Mickey Gilbert, age 87, of Plano, Texas, passed away on May 2, 2015. She was born on August 9, 1927 in Cuero, Texas to Benjamin Cicero and Nettie Velma (Lunsford) Dean. On February 27, 1949, Mickey married James Edgar Gilbert in San Antonio, Texas. They were married for 62 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Gilbert Boren and Beverlea Lynn Gilbert both of Plano, Texas; her three nieces, Carol Patton, Binnie Bauml and Michelle Dycus and their families; and nephews, David Raatz and Gordon Raatz, Jr. and their families.
Mickey was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Edgar Gilbert; daughter, Patricia Joan Gilbert; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Mickey was a lifetime homemaker who was actively involved in her church and community. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years as well as a nursery and community outreach volunteer and was actively involved in PTA. She was a caretaker for 15 years to her daughter, Joan, and was an excellent seamstress and Southern cook.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. The family will receive family and friends during a visitation being held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
