Michael Gottfried Mayer, age 48, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on July 12, 2015.  He was born on March 27, 1967, in Lake Forest, Illinois to Roger and Ann (Holford) Mayer. 

He is survived by mother, Ann Mayer-Scaffidi and husband Sam of Hartland, Wisconsin; girlfriend, Peg Breeding of McKinney, Texas and her children, Whitney Breeding and Beau Breeding of McKinney, Texas; brothers, Bradley R. Mayer and wife Catherine of Chicago, Illinois, Charles H. Mayer and wife LaDonna of McKinney, Texas, C. David Mayer and wife Heather of Aledo, Texas; nephews, Charles R. (Chase) Mayer, Mitchell J. Mayer, Seth G. Mayer all of McKinney, Texas and John H. (Jack) Mayer of Aledo, Texas; nieces, Brooke A. Mayer of McKinney, Texas, Katherine P. Mayer of Aledo, Texas and Noreen C. Mayer of Chicago, Illinois.

Michael is preceded in death by his father, Roger Gottfried Mayer and sister, Laura Ann Mayer. Mike's formative years were spent in Sherman, Texas where he played football for Sherman High, graduating in 1985.  He went on to graduate from Princeton and then earned his Masters at Columbia University.  Mike devoted his professional career to helping others, especially children, as a mental health specialist. Favorite and memorable pastimes included his love for music and attending concerts.  Mike also enjoyed spending time outdoors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman; an excellent shot and patient angler. Mike will be remembered for his hearty laugh, his big smile and his generosity to all he knew.  He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2015 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.  The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 6:30 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m., followed by additional visitation on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
