Michael Leon Day

Michael Leon Day, age 60 of The Colony, Texas passed away March 6, 2015, in McKinney, Texas. He was born March 4, 1955 in El Paso, Texas to Leon and Sally Ann (Hogan) Day. Mike grew up in El Paso where he graduated from Andress High School in 1973 and attended UTEP.


After racing for Kawasaki and on the American Motorcyclist Association circuit in the early 1970s, he went into the restaurant business where he managed The Wharf, Miguel’s and Chilo’s. After moving to Dallas, Texas in 1980, he began working for All About Travel. It was during his time as manager of Whiskey River and Back Street that he met his wife, Stacey. Mike married Stacey Prewit July 9, 1983, in Plano, Texas.


Mike began working as a fishing guide at Possum Kingdom Lake in the mid-1990s and operated Mike Day’s Professional Guide Service for seven years. Later, he was part of the NASCAR truck team of J.R. Patton Racing until 2005. In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking, NASCAR, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.  
 
He is survived by his loving wife, Stacey Prewit Day of The Colony, Texas; mother, Sally and her husband Paul Berube of El Paso, Texas; brother, Jack Day of El Paso, Texas; sister, Debbie Eads and her husband Tim of Plano, Texas; nephews, Colby and Chase Eads; aunt, Patti Hornick of Plano, Texas; cousins, Ted and Bill Hornick; and a host of other loving family and friends.  
 
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Leon Day.  
 
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Ninja Paws Animal Rescue would be most appreciated.
