Melvin Leon Honea, age 75, of Durant, Oklahoma passed away January 21, 2011. He was born September 17, 1935 in McKinney, Texas to Ed Alexander Honea and Versie Ozzella (Wilson) Honea. On August 5, 1953 Melvin married Maudie Lea Pilkington in Durant, Oklahoma. He grew up in McKinney, Texas, where he attended schools. He lettered in football his freshman year at Boyd High School. Melvin proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he received his training to become an electrician. He started Honea Electric in 1969 which he operated until his retirement in 2002. He trained a number of his employees including his son passing on his love for the trade. He enjoyed raising cattle, riding horses and fishing. He was a true cowboy. Melvin always had an answer for everything. He is survived by his wife, Maudie Honea of Durant, Oklahoma; daughters, Melinda Honea Chapin and husband, Joe of McKinney, Texas, Mistey Moore and husband, Tom of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Taylor Honea, Adam Craver and wife, Veronica, Jana Craver and husband, Romulo Leal, Jessica Honea and Margaret Freeman; great-grandchildren, Jordon Leal, Avery Leal, Aidan Craver, Miley Craver and Nathan Craver; son by choice, Kenny Kirby; sister, Jeanetta Adams and husband, Jerry; brother, Frank Honea and wife, Gloria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Versie Honea; son, Billy Honea; sisters, Francis Morgan and Loma Lou Lake; brothers, Eddie Honea and Walter B. “Curly” Honea. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 24, 2011, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel. Interment will follow at Wilson Chapel Cemetery, Lowry Crossing, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Sunday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas.
