Melba J. (Combest) Robertson

Melba J. (Combest) Robertson, of Plano, Texas, joined her heavenly family on January 8, 2014, at the age of 85. Melba was born on June 3, 1928, in Collin County, Texas, to Virgil and Manie (Webb) Combest. She graduated from high school in Van Alstyne, Texas, class of 1945. Melba married the love of her life, Joe Dan Robertson on August 21, 1945. Melba and Joe lived in Plano, Texas where he worked in real estate and she worked at First National Bank and later owned her own Merle Norman Cosmetics store. Later they purchased a farm in Anna. Melba and Joe loved to travel, fish, and farm.

After Joe Dan passed away, Melba moved back to Plano where she was an active member of First Baptist Church for over fifty years. She sang in the Sunshine Singers choir and faithfully attended the Leon Aduddell Sunday School class. Melba was a hospital volunteer at North Texas Medical Center where she served as president and secretary as well as a buyer for the gift shop. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and a special friend to many. Melba will be missed by all who knew her. Her Lord, family, and friends were her greatest loves.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Gaither Phipps of Nocona and Yvonne Robertson of Allen, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Manie Combest, husband, Joe Dan Robertson, brother, Harold Lee Combest, and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2013, at First Baptist Church Chapel in Plano, Texas. Interment will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Westminster, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Mustang Creek and Vitas Hospice, especially Rosemary Engel, for the loving care given to Melba.
