Mayde Joy Skelton Chandler

Mayde Joy Skelton Chandler, born March 2, 1927, went home to be with the Lord on August 18, 2009 after suffering a stroke at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. Mayde was of the Southern Baptist faith and a member of the DAR. She loved to read to her grandchildren while helping raise them. Mayde taught herself to paint and many of her paintings are cherished by her family and friends. Mayde and Laverne loved music and singing together. After losing her eyesight, Mayde, loved listening to books on tape from the Light House of the Blind. The Chandlers moved to Wisconsin in 2004 `to be close to their daughter when Laverne was ill with Alzheimer’s. Mayde was a lung cancer survivor of five years, however, it was not to be even with the good care of her daughter, Barbara and her husband, Richard, Maydes heart gave out. We will miss her and cherish the good memories. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Jean Chandler Knopp and her husband, Richard of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; son, James Richard Chandler and his partner Marsha Jordan of Irving, Texas; five grandchildren, Tim Hughes and wife, Kathy of Austin, Texas, Robin Hewitt and husband Joe of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Holly Zuge and husband Brian also of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Lisa Kinsey and husband Cody of Union Grove, Texas, and James Jason Chandler of Plano, Texas; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, William Skelton and wife, Tillie of Bedford, Texas; sister, Nancy Monico of Saginaw, Texas; a special friend of thirty years, Shelda Fitzgerald of Plano, Texas; and a very special daughter-in-law, Scharlotte Chandler Wilder of McKinney, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Argyle and Geneva Watts Skelton, her husband of sixty-three years, Laverne Chandler, and sister, Elsie Pearl Skelton Cashion. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 23, 2009, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Rev. Garland Beasley officiating. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Saturday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Chandler’s name to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, W2850 State Rd. 28, Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, 53085.
