Maudie Pilkington Honea, age 76, of McKinney, Texas, passed away August 29, 2011, in McKinney. Maudie was born July 5, 1935, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Lee Hearne and Nancy Jane (Castle) Pilkington. She married Melvin Leon Honea on August 5, 1953, in Durant, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2011. Maudie grew up in west Texas. She lost her mother at age 13, leaving her with four younger siblings. Maudie and her siblings all went to Buckner Children’s Home. She was an elevator girl at Sanger-Harris and later retired from Target where she performed various job duties including managing the fitting room. Maudie loved shopping especially at JC Penney, Target, and Walmart. Keeping in touch with her family and friends through phone calls and letters was very important to her. She loved singing and most of all she loved her family. She is survived by her daughters, Melinda Chapin and husband, Joe of McKinney, Texas and Mistey Moore and husband, Tom of Anna, Texas; grandchildren, Taylor Honea, Adam Craver and wife, Veronica, Jana Craver-Leal and husband, Romulo, Maggie Beltran, and Jessica Honea; eleven great-grandchildren; shared in raising her nephews, George, Robert, and Johnny Leo Gage; brother, Major Pilkington; sisters, Lily Faye Blair, Velva Knapp, Nellen Attaway, Marilyn Gage, Belle Fredrickson, and Grace Vancourt; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Billy Leon Honea, husband, Leon Honea, brothers, Arthur Ray Pilkington and Denville Pilkington, and sisters, Tootsie Shook and Susie Jane Gillilan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Rev. Robert Till officiating. Interment will follow at Wilson Chapel Cemetery in Lowry Crossing, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.
