Mattinel Clayton Cooper, beloved and devoted wife and mother, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, in Ft. Worth , Texas . Born in Fullerton , Louisiana , on February 6, 1922, she grew up in Nashville , Tennessee , attended David Lipscomb High School and College, and married George E. Cooper of Nashville in 1943 and moved to Texas , residing in San Antonio , Dallas , and for nearly fifty years in Longview . A member of the Church of Christ , active in PTA, in her garden club, and Pine Crest Country Club, a strong supporter of St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis , Tennessee , she belonged to that generation of women who put responsibility to husband and children first. Fun-loving and outgoing, she loved social gatherings, was a gracious host, and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed travel with family and friends, especially to her beloved Nashville . She spent her last years at Lakewood Christian Care in Ft. Worth . Her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, George E. Cooper, Jr., of Frisco , Texas , and Stephan C. Cooper of Lone Star, Texas , by two daughters, Carolyn Cooper, of Houston , Texas , and Cynthia Cooper, of Ft. Worth, Texas, by a sister, Freda Acuff, of Nashville, and by four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
