Mary Ellen Travis, age 89, of Plano, Texas passed away August 19, 2010. She was born December 22, 1920 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Charles Francis Dougherty and Isabel Frances (Meder) Dougherty. On November 22, 1942 Mary married Leland Duane Travis in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1994. Mary grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Marquette High School. She worked for Ziegler’s Jewelers for a number of years. Mary enjoyed playing bridge and bowling. She volunteered at a hospital in Dyer, Indiana. Mary was a member of the O.W.L. She was also a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community, Plano, Texas She is survived by her children, Kay Hein and husband, Ken of Houston, Texas, Lee Travis and Chris Travis both of Plano, Texas, Jerry Travis and wife, Barbara of Wichita, Kansas, Teresa Dougherty and husband, Dennis of McKinney, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Isabel Dougherty; husband, Leland Duane Travis and five brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 23, 2010 at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 5100 West Plano Parkway, Plano, Texas 75093. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Sunday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas.
