Mary Frances Stewart, of Hilltop Haven, Gunter, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 23 days. She was born on January 24, 1919 in Pilot Point, Texas to William Furd and Clora Mae (Graham) Fritcher. Mary attended Pilot Point schools. Years later when she needed her birth certificate for Social Security, one of her teachers verified her age by remembering her as the tallest girl in her class. Mary Frances married James Roy Stewart on August 20, 1935 in Aubrey, Texas. She gave birth to Bill, James, twins, Bobby and Jimmy, Betty and Frank. After James was born they moved to Dallas and ran a riding stable and rent line until Roy passed away on October 12, 1964. After his death Mary moved her children to Celina and went to work at Hilltop Haven Nursing Home and Denton State School until her retirement. During this time Mary also sold snow cones on the side of Hwy 289, at ball games, flea markets and anywhere she could set up. All the kids in the area affectionately know her as the “snow cone lady”. In later years until she was 83 years of age she was a Home Health Care provider after which she retired for a second time. Mary was very independent and loved to travel until her health began to fail and she moved to Hilltop in August of 2007. As long as she was able Mary attended Preston North Church of Christ in Celina. She leaves to cherish her memory, James and Alice Stewart of Dorchester, Bobby and Dixie Stewart of Pilot Point, Betty and Lynn Wester of Booneville, Arkansas, Frank Stewart of Booneville, Arkansas; sisters, Betty and Jack Foster, Dorothy and Leighton Foster of Valley View.
