Mary Lucille Prestjohn

Mary Lucille Prestjohn, 86, passed away peacefully with family on October 26, 2013, at her home in McKinney, Texas. She was a devoted Christian woman who dedicated her life to serving others. Mary loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, sewing, and gardening. Mary Lucille Nelson was born May 3, 1927 to Albert and Julia (Stolnack) Nelson in Deadwood, South Dakota. She was raised in Newell, South Dakota where she graduated from Newell High School in 1944. After high school she attended St. John's McNamara Hospital School of Nursing in Rapid City, South Dakota and graduated in 1948. Mary married Lawrence O. Prestjohn on March 20, 1949. Relocating many times with Lawrence's military assignments, she adapted her career as a registered nurse in various hospital settings, preferring general med-surgery until she retired in 1986.

Mary is survived by children, Jacqueline A. Baskett of Pilot Point, Texas, Mark O. Prestjohn of Lewisville, Texas, Marilyn K. Knetzger and husband Jack, of Plano, Texas, and Jeanne M. Prestjohn of Carrollton, Texas; grandchildren, Matt Baskett and wife Mandy, Kirsten Ekstrom and husband Brandon, Sarah Eichberger and husband John, Zachary Prestjohn, Julia Lawson and husband Mike, Jill North, and Jayme Sims and husband Jeremy; and great-grandchildren, Bailey and Wesley Baskett, Shiloh and Capri Ekstrom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence O. Prestjohn; brothers, Emil Nelson, Harold Nelson, and Wesley Nelson.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2013, at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen. Interment will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, South Dakota at a later date. A graveside service will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery in 20901 Pleasant Valley Drive, Sturgis, South Dakota 57785, on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
