IN LOVING MEMORY

Mary duBignon Lyne

Nov 07 1939 - Jul 12 2011

Mary duBignon Lyne, age 72 of Plano, Texas, passed away on July 12, 2011 in Plano after a 26 year battle with cancer. She was born November 7, 1938 in Wilmington, Delaware. She attended Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, before graduating from Stanford University in 1960. She married Stephen Lyne of Rutland, Vermont, on June 20, 1959. For the next 30 years she served her nation and her family as the wife of a Foreign Service Officer, representing the United States in Cambodia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Gabon, Algeria, Australia, Lebanon, and Ghana. After retirement from the Foreign Service, Ambassador and Mrs. Lyne moved to Brookline, Massachusetts as Steve became a Professor at Boston University’s Department of International Relations. Mary became fully involved in the community filling numerous positions at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Brookline and serving on the board overseeing the preservation of the Loring-Greenough House in Jamaica Plain. After Steve retired from BU, Mary split her time between Rockport, Maine, and La Quinta, California, before finally settling in Plano, all the while continuing to not just see, but experience, the world, continuing to travel with her sister, her daughter, and her grandkids. Mary is survived by her husband, two children, five grandchildren, and a host of friends around the world. A private graveside service will take place in Wilmington.
