Mary Ann Hurst

Mary Ann Hurst passed away, Saturday, February 01, 2014, at her home in Farmersville. She was born January 27, 1949, to Barney and Hazel Green Wright in Fort Worth, the only daughter of three children. Mary Ann graduated from Farmersville High School in 1967 where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. After high school, Mary Ann attended East Texas State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1971 and a Master of Education in 1985. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Mary Ann wed Gary Mack Hurst on January 25, 1970, at the First Baptist Church of Farmersville. Mary Ann taught for six years in Princeton ISD, four years at the First Baptist Church of Farmersville Pre-School and 19 years with Farmersville ISD, retiring in 2004. Mary Ann was the proud mother of two sons, Payton and Paxton Hurst, and was the well-known and loved hostess to all of their friends. She was also a loving and beloved mother-in-law to Laura and Tawny and proud “Mimi” to her five grandchildren.

Mary Ann was a member of a local card-playing group, a Bunco group and a “Sweet Potato Queen” who will be remembered for her raucous sense of humor, loyalty and exuberance. More importantly, Mary Ann will live forever in the hearts and minds of those who witnessed or benefitted from her unfailing generosity. She never met a stranger and never let a perceived need go unaddressed. Mary Ann was thoughtful of others, always ready with a sweetly-worded card and gift when any special occasion arose.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Hazel Wright, sister-in-law Susan Wright and brother-in-law Terry Owens. She is survived by her husband, Mack, her son Payton and daughter-in-law Laura of Bartonville, son Paxton and daughter-in-law Tawny of Argyle, brother Ed Wright and wife Kay of Dallas, brother David Wright and wife Karen of Dallas, brother-in-law Jack Hurst and wife Kim of Merit, brother in law Terry Hurst and wife Karen of Merit, sister-in-law Lana Owens of Allen and five grandchildren; Channing, Jaxson, Maddox, Grayson and Emerson.
