Mary Frances Carey King

Mary Frances Carey King, age 86, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2008. She was born November 3, 1921 in Polk County, Nebraska, to the late William L. Carey and Minnie Loraine Price. She graduated from Adamson High School, Dallas, in 1938. Mary Frances served in the U.S. Navy WAVES as a meteorologist during WW II. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. On February 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Cecil Joe King. The U.S. Air Force moved the Kings to Japan, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and England over the course of twenty years; and they returned to Texas in 1961. Of note is that Mary Frances was one of the very early women television meteorologists while in Waco, Texas. She retired several years later as school secretary in the DISD. Mary Frances was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Cecil Joe. Surviving are her son Ronald and wife Crystal, of Plano; son Stephen and wife Janet of Longview; daughter Connie and husband Jim Goodrich, of McKinney; six grandchildren Coby, Ryan, Stephanie, Rachel, Glenn, and Jamie; great-grandson Ethan; sister Dorothy Kennedy of Austin; her beloved Carey family members, and numerous nieces, nephews, and the great friends from a long and happy life. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Ryan King officiating. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. Following the funeral services, Mrs. King will receive a full military honors ceremony at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX at 2:30 p.m.
