Mary (Cookie) Hrdlicka Charlton

Mary (Cookie) Hrdlicka Charlton was born November 12, 1940 in Houston, Texas to Charles and Dorothy Hrdlicka. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 22, 2010. Cookie attended Southern Methodist University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She graduated from the University of Houston with a BBA in Accounting. In 1960 she married Scott Charlton and they recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Scott Charlton, Jr. and wife, Rose of Sydney, Australia; daughter, Whitney Duggan and her husband, Kevin of Keller, Texas, and four grandchildren, Hannah Charlton, Colin Duggan, Clay Duggan, and Ellie Duggan. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Hrdlicka III and his wife, Andra of San Antonio, Texas. Her family, the delight of her life, was joyfully loved and served by this wonderful woman. Cookie’s life focus was to serve the Lord Jesus Christ with purpose and to be the best wife, mother, grandmother (Pip) and friend in order that He might be glorified. Cookie’s commitment to God led her to be extensively involved in community service. She and her husband, Scott, were founding members of Sherman Bible Church, where they served together for many years. She taught Sunday School, as well as served on the Education and Outreach Committees. Additionally, she and Scott were founding members of Sherman Young Life and she cherished her involvement with this ministry. Cookie also had a passion for international missions as she was a National Board member of RREACH (Ramesh Richard) International Ministries for 14 years. She also participated in numerous foreign mission trips with East-West Ministries. In 1995, she was appointed by Texas Governor George W. Bush to the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Advisory Board and served for 7 years. Cookie was a former President of Sherman Service League, President of Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni, Co-Chairman of Grayson County Bush for Governor Campaign, and President of Sherman Girl’s Club. Other areas of service included PTA President, Camp Fire Leader, and volunteer at the Crisis Pregnancy Center. In addition to her volunteerism she was the Business Manager for her husband’s orthodontic practice. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Sherman Bible Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to East-West Ministries (www.eastwest.org) or RREACH International Ministries (www.rreach.org).
