Marvin Smith

Marvin Norman Smith was born July 1, 1924 at Whitewright, Texas to Grover Britain Smith and Maggie Adelle Hall Smith. He died early Christmas day, December 25, 2011 at Seminole Medical Center in Seminole, Oklahoma at the age of 87. He was a resident of Whitewright, Texas. Marvin was the youngest of four brothers. His father was a painter and the family moved for a while to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and to Dallas, Texas. He met Billie Jo Phillips on the sidewalk in front of the drug store when she walked up and introduced herself on a dare. They married, May 17, 1942 in Durant, Oklahoma at the ages of 16 & 17 and had two children, Jodie and Tom. They were married for 70 years. Marvin worked as a lineman for Texas Power and Light Company for 42 years before retiring and moving back to his childhood home of Whitewright. Marvin was a Master Mason and had received his 60 year certificate in June of 2010. He was a member of the Kentuckytown Baptist Church. He is survived by wife, Billie Jo Smith of Whitewright; son, Tom Smith and wife Linda of Konawa, Oklahoma; son-in-law, David Bledsoe of Colbert, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Sam Smith, Sarah Gafford, Nathaniel Smith, Tsegaye Smith, Mike Bledsoe, Matt Bledsoe, and Mitch Bledsoe; 7 great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Grover, David and Jaybez; and by his daughter, Norma Jo "Jodie" Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, Whitewright, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Rodney Stanford. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas. Pallbearers will be David Bledsoe, Mike Bledsoe, Matt Bledsoe, Sam Smith, Nathaniel Smith, and Tsegaye Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Brown and Mitch Bledsoe.
