IN LOVING MEMORY

Martha McKinney Hardin

Sep 09 1917 - Jun 27 2012

Martha McKinney Hardin, age 94, of McKinney, Texas passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in McKinney. She was born September 9, 1917 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Charlie and Octo McKinney.

It all started when she fell in love with the high school quarterback and the two 16 year olds having a first date at the movie. On July 21, 1940, she married Paul Hardin.

They moved to McKinney in 1947 when Paul was hired as the President of the Chamber of Commerce and never left.

She loved her children, her family and the game of bridge. She was also so fearless and confident that she did the crossword puzzle every day in ink. When her eyesight failed, she continued with son John Charles' help.

Martha was a voracious reader, reading three books a week for fifty plus years. And although cooking was not her passion, she always greeted guests with her homemade mint tea. Friends and family around the world were beneficiaries of a needlepoint stocking to celebrate the birth of a new child with its name and year of birth.

As her boys grew older Martha took classes at the community college and a job as a bookkeeper for Boyd, Veigel & Gay to fill her time. She enjoyed traveling, the Texas Rangers and playing bingo at the Senior Center.

And she loved her church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in McKinney for 65 years. If the doors were open - she was there.

She is survived by her sons, John Charles Hardin of McKinney, Texas and Andrew Hardin and wife Amy of Frisco, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Thomas, Blaine, Cody, Brittany, Dillon and Hayden; and several other loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 67 years, her parents and her younger brother Charleton "Chile" McKinney who died in active service during World War II.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in McKinney with Rev. Tommy Brumett officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Friday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of McKinney, 315 North Church Street, McKinney, Texas 75069.
