Marian Valdes Karlson

After a brief illness Marian V. Karlson died December 29, 2008 at home in McKinney, Texas. She lived most of her life in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1940, worked in Washington, DC and Burns General Hospital during WWII. She married Ernest (Kurley) Karlson in 1945. She retired from the Bureau of Land Management in 1982. She served on the New Mexico Board of Regents for the School of the Deaf from 1971 to 1983, and also served on the Board of Directors for Fairview Cemetery. She is survived in death by her husband, Ernest of 63 ½ years; a daughter, Rosina and son-in-law Harold Thomas; a son, Tito Karlson and daughter-in-law Tracey; four grandchildren, Michael S. Karlson, Amberly Gardner, Nicholas Gardner, and Stephan Gardner, a brother Freddie Valdes of Los Lunas, New Mexico, a brother-in-law, I.W. Li of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred M. and May T. Valdes; twin brother, Leonard T. Valdes; and a sister, Nancy A. Li. A memorial service will be held in Santa Fe, NM in the Spring of 2009. Should friend’s desire memorials, the family requests donations be made to Fairview Cemetery Preservation Association, P.O. Box 5958, Santa Fe, NM. 87502. Ernest’s address: 1650 S. Stonebridge Dr. #209, McKinney, TX 75070. Marian was a kind, gracious, loving and a friend to everyone she met. She will be missed by ALL.
