María Elena R. Márquez, age 57, of Allen, Texas, passed away on May 26, 2016. She was born June 19, 1958, in Del Rio, Texas to José Mario Rubio, Sr. and Evangelina (Trevino) Rubio. María graduated from Del Rio San Felipe Consolidated School District; she received her Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Education from Texas Women’s University in 1976. On July 25, 1981, Maria married Emiliano Márquez in Del Rio, Texas. They moved to Plano, Texas and María worked for the Plano Independent School District as a bilingual elementary school teacher. She was one of the original two bilingual teachers in the district. María was named Plano Independent School District’s Teacher of The Year, as well as Region Ten Bilingual Teacher of The Year in 2005. She assisted with the Renner Middle School’s food and clothing project for nineteen years. Her family remembers her love for baking and gardening. María was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Emiliano Márquez; daughter, Veneza Elena M. Grillo and husband Rico Michael; son, Emiliano José Márquez; grandson, Anthony Michael Grillo; mother, Evangelina Rubio; siblings, Rosa Rubio, Olga Felan and husband Roberto, José Mario Rubio, Jr. and wife Berta, Ricardo Rubio and wife Loree.
María is preceded in death by her father, José Mario Rubio, Sr.
A funeral mass will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 North Greenville Ave, Allen, Texas 75002. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. A rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m.
