IN LOVING MEMORY

Margaret "Peg" van Pelt

Dec 22 1925 - Mar 21 2011

Our beloved mother, 85 left this earth on March 21, 2011, surrounded by her family in Dallas. It had been a great week for Mom, filled with activities, friends and family. Her passing came very quickly and peacefully. Peg was born on December 22, 1925 in Magnolia, Arkansas to Cecil and Clarence Duhon. She entered college at 16, graduating from Baylor University in 1945 with a degree in Bacteriology and French. She continued her studies at the University of Arkansas Medical School, graduating as a medical technician in 1947. After graduate school, she worked in the general lab at the teaching hospital in Little Rock and met the love of her life, William van Pelt. They married in 1951 and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. They had three wonderful daughters. While her husband built his medical practice, Peg worked at Hillcrest Hospital and in his practice as a lab technician. She always found time to be at every game, performance and event important to the girls, including serving as the Camp Fire Girls group leader for each of them, spanning 15 years. After Van’s death in 1995, Peg began traveling the world: visiting Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, Canada and much of the U.S. with friends and family. She also found time to help others through the Widowed Persons Service and volunteer work at Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was an avid bridge player, regularly beating friends and family. In 2003, Peg retired to University Village where she continued to volunteer, play cards and she completed seven years of International Bible Study Fellowship classes. In 2010, she moved to Dallas to be closer to her daughters, Cathy Reeder of Plano, Barbara van Pelt of Dallas, and Cindy Bourne and her husband Michael, also of Dallas. She is survived by them and two grandchildren, Grant and Lauren Reeder. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2011, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, Allen, Texas. Friends are invited to a reception afterwards at the home of Cathy Reeder. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday beginning at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A special thanks to Mom’s wonderful friends in Tulsa, and our friends in Dallas who welcomed her and made the last six months of her life a joy. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Operation Kindness, 3201 Earhart Drive, Carrollton, Texas 75006 or the charity of your choice.
