Marcia Ruth Holcomb Coale

Marcia Ruth Holcomb Coale passed away on February 23, 2009 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on March 18, 1934 in Denton, Texas and was the daughter of James Gerald Holcomb and Fay Kemp. She had one brother James Benjamin Holcomb II. Her parents were west Texas farmers with ancestral roots tracing back to colonial America. e was a brilliant student and graduated from North Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in library science at age 18. After working for several years she returned to NTSU and earned a Master of Education degree. She supervised elementary school libraries in Denton, Wichita Falls, Snyder and Deer Park, Texas. Her hobbies included cooking, music, art, cultivating wildflowers, travel and flying a Piper J-3 Cub airplane around Texas. She married Cecil Roberts Coale, Jr. in 1966 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was an outstanding homemaker, mother and wife. She is survived by her husband Cecil Coale of Fairview, son David Coale of University Park and three grandchildren Caleb Coale, Cecilia Coale and Camden Coale. At various times in her life she had been a member of the United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Heard Museum and several native plant societies. Memorials may be made to the Heard Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney, Texas.
