IN LOVING MEMORY

Marcela Geist

Jul 26 1931 - Apr 02 2014

Our Heavenly Father delivered one his favorite angels, Ana Marcela, to this earth on July 26th 1931.  Her earthly journey began in Chile in the small town of Talca and continued onto Rancagua, where she was nurtured by her parents, Juanita Escobar and Manuel Humberto Rojas.  At age 29, the Lord's path led Marcela and her family to Southern California where she has been touching lives and improving the American story ever since.

After waiting patiently for almost 83 years, Our Lord and Savior carried Marcela back to her eternal home on April 2nd 2014. She is survived by two children, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Marcela has been reunited with those who arrived in Heaven before her, and she will wait lovingly to be reunited with all those she has left behind. Her final resting place is at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California.

Marcela was a hard-worker and earned a reputation that is respected and admired. Before she moved to Carlsbad, she had kept herself busy working at a high school in East Los Angeles where she helped students to overcome language barriers that she herself had worked so hard to overcome. She filled her life with family, friends and her community.

Marcela has always put her trust in the Lord, and found her comfort in Jesus Christ. Those that knew Marcela well knew her to take great pride in her family.  She held her grandchildren and great grandchildren close to her heart, usually placing her hands over her heart when speaking about them.  Marcela cherished the many friendships with which she had been blessed within the Carlsbad community.  She loved any kind of social gathering and volunteered to help out wherever she could.

She kept busy with a love for gardening, mending and restoring anything she could get her hands on.  She took pride in the beautiful and loving home she shared with Jim Smith, and she always enjoyed interacting with the wildlife found right outside their door.  She loved talking with the swans, ducks and turtles.  They all knew Marcela’s “cluck-cluck” call, and she was known to occasionally sneak them a snack.

She loved the holidays, especially Christmas.  She spent days preparing her Christmas tree and turning it into a piece of art.  She decorated her golf cart in very simple ways with magnificent results as well!  Never forgetting the reason for the season, Marcela and Jim continually thanked God for all His blessings and for bringing us a Savior!

Marcela enjoyed telling stories of her past and preserving memories with picture taking.  She was a wonderful hostess and loved to feed her friends and family.  Her cooking was delicious, her smile infectious, and her generosity and kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone. We are all blessed to know her, and we are grateful to have an angel such as Marcela watching over us.

Please take a moment to share a cherished memory or message about Marcela.
