Maggie Mae Smith, age 99, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on December 28, 2015. She was born February 17, 1916, in Jackson County, Tennessee, to Irwin Haywood and Sarah (Dyer) Rector. On February 2, 1935, Maggie married William T. Smith in Gallatin, Tennessee; she was a preacher’s wife for 66 years until his death in 2001. Maggie was the third of nine children, five sisters and three brothers, all of whom preceded Maggie in death. She was very much a perfectionist, a seamstress and cook. Maggie was a member of Kingwood Church of Christ in Humble, Texas.
She is survived by her children, Wanda Joyce Cantwell of Kingwood, Texas, Faye Williams and husband Tom of Dallas, Texas and Tollie Udell Smith and wife Dorinda of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Curtis Lee Cantwell, Keith Alan Cantwell, James Kevin Cantwell, Sherrinda LeAnn Ketchersid, Audra FayE Lewis, Jennifer Allyson Polk, Jarrett Neal Smith, Channing Amanda Smith Shimmel; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends at noon prior to the service at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
