Madeline Elizabeth "Peppie" Stone

Jul 05 1934 - Jun 18 2017

Madeline Elizabeth “Peppie” Stone, age 92, of Celina, Texas, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 in Pilot Point, Texas. She was born July 8, 1924 in the family home northwest of Celina, Texas to Andrew Edward and Philomena Annie “Minnie” (Bauer) Tischler. Peppie was the third of nine children in the family. Minnie Tischler, the mother died early 1941, leaving an infant for the family to care for. Peppies’s responsibilities were to keep milk on hand for the child. These were difficult times, but the family was strong and worked together and worked hard. Peppie preferred working outside with her father in farming the land and caring for cattle. She attended a country school close to her home named Shain’s Chapel, with Mrs. Cline being the school teacher. Andrew Edward Tischler died March 14, 1965 and he and Minnie are both buried in St. Thomas Cemetery in Pilot Point, Texas.

On November 5, 1942, L.T. Grumbles married Peppie Tischler and Edwin Eugene Stone in Celina, Texas. Eugene was the son of Bedford Cleveland and Pearl D. (Hayes) Stone, who also lived in Celina. The young couple lived, raised cows, and farmed all their married life west of Celina. Peppie was happiest when working outside. She quickly excelled in operating the farm equipment and years later learned to repair the same. Being fond of music, for a while, the couple had monthly country music shows in Celina in their house west of the square. The group also played and sang at area nursing homes and for benefits in and around Celina. Eugene was a lifetime fan of country music and a member of the Celina Country Travelers for twelve years. After a prolonged illness, Eugene Stone died on August 16, 2010, at the age of 87 in the Hilltop Haven Nursing Home in Gunter, Texas with burial in Old Celina Cemetery in Celina, Texas. The couple had been married for 68 years.

On July 26, 1943, Peppie Stone was baptized by Brother Alva Johnson at a summer church meeting. From that day forward, she was a consistent member of the Church of Christ in Celina.

Peppie Stone is survived by four sisters, Mary Irene (Tischler) Turner, Loretta Mae (Tischler) Sherek, Melva Doris (Tischler) Faulk, and Anita Joy (Tischler) Bass; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Edward and Minnie (Bauer) Tischler; husband, Eugene Stone; three sisters, Francis Cetherine (Tischler) Gregg, Eloise Clara (Tischler) Riley, and Julia Elizabeth (Tischler) Shaw; and one brother, Andrew Raymond Tischler.
