Mackie Eugene “Buck” Holmes, age 81, of Whitewright, Texas, passed away January 30, 2012, in Whitewright. Buck was born December 2, 1930, in Weston, Texas, to Mack Daniel and Willie (Miller) Holmes. He owned and operated Holmes Construction and Backhoe Service in Allen, Texas. Buck proudly served in the United States Army serving at Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He was an avid hunter. Buck also loved to catch catfish at Lake Texoma and would cook them for everyone along with fries, hushpuppies, and his grape drink. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Biesel and husband, Don of Liberty City, Texas; sons, Rickie Holmes and wife, Carolyn of Avinger, Texas, Dale Holmes and wife, Jeannie of Whitewright, Texas, and Mark Holmes and wife, Janette of Gunter, Texas; surviving children’s mother, Oneta Holmes of Avinger, Texas; grandchildren, Terry Higgs, Bonnie Taylor, Kyle Moore, Michael Higgs, Kacy Moore, Tamara Douglas, Renee Holmes, Daniel Holmes, Katlyn Holmes, and Cody Hughes; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Aliff Coppedge of Dallas, Texas and Katheryn Black and husband, Billy Mack of Pottsboro, Texas; brother, Johnny Holmes and wife, Glenda of Pottsboro, Texas; his very special friend, Ruby Smith of Melissa, Texas; and numerous other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Mack Daniel Holmes, mother, Willie Bell Holmes, grandson, Chad Holmes, sister, Mattie Campbell, and brother, Billy Lavoy Holmes. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Rev. Dan Stevens and Pastor Frankie Enloe officiating. Interment will follow at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
