Lynette Lowe Weiss

Lynette Lowe Weiss was born February 26, 1924, in Willow Springs, MO, to J. Fenton Chapin and Mariwill (Campbell) Chapin. She was the youngest of seven children. She was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings.

She graduated from Hartville (MO) High School.

She served in the WAVES during World War II as a Hospital Corpsman. She was the editor of the hospital newspaper at USNH Memphis.

Lynette married Harold Ward Lowe on April 22, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1968.

Lynette graduated cum laude from the University of Wichita (now Wichita State) with departmental honors in political science, English, and education. She taught Introduction to Political Science at the University of Wichita and at East Texas State University (now, Texas A&M-Commerce). She taught English at Arlington High School and Government at Greenville High School.

She was elected to two terms on the Greenville, TX, City Council, serving as mayor pro tem during the second term. She represented the City Council in the North Texas Council of Governments.

She was elected Who’s Who in American Women and Who’s Who in Personalities of the South. She participated in many civic activities including voter registration, voter information, electoral participation, and performing arts.

She was a field representative of Community Concerts Inc. and organized many associations including the McKinney Community Concerts Association in 1974. Bringing the best in musical entertainment to the cities in her division was her great interest and passion in life.

Lynette married Dr. Harold Weiss, Chairman Emeritus of SMU School of Communications on July 21, 1980. They moved to McKinney in 1981. They spent their years together in world travel. Dr. Weiss preceded her in death in 2000.

Lynette is survived by her son the Rev. Harold C. Lowe and wife Norma of McKinney; grandson Harold Alejandro Lowe and wife Anita, currently stationed at Naval Station Rota, Spain; grandson Daniel Ricardo Lowe and wife Melissa of Warminster, PA; great grandson Adán Christian Lowe and great granddaughter Chapin Alejandra Lowe of Rota, Spain; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be scheduled during the summer of 2015.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church-McKinney, Holy Family Episcopal Church-McKinney, Meals on Wheels-Collin County, or McKinney Community Concerts Association.
