Mrs. Lyeva Engelman, age 87, of McKinney, Texas passed away March 29, 2008, in Plano, Texas. She was born April 2, 1920, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Horace Leopold and Lydia (Kahanek) Plunkett. On May 28, 1948, she married Curtis Engelman in Salem Illinois. Mrs. Engelman was a graduate of Oklahoma A&M where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi. She continued her education in music at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Following graduation from Eastman, she began her career teaching music for several colleges including, McMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois and Oklahoma Baptist University. She became associate professor of music at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Mrs. Engelman was a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She is survived by her sons, Kurt V. Engelman and wife, Dian of McKinney, Texas, Carl E. Engelman and wife, Dr. Tracy Hull of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Christopher Y. Engelman and wife, Mary of Lawton, Oklahoma; daughters, Kyra Engelman of The Colony, Texas and Lida E. Smith and husband, James of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Russell Engelman, Cameron Smith, Eric Smith, Jennifer Smith, Aimee Murphy, Daniel Alexander, Keith Barron, Misti Moody, Rachel Burton, Sarah Burton and Grant Burton; great-grandchildren, Brendan and Ian Murphy, Blaine Thomas and Noah and Quentin Moody; sister-in-law, Nancy Borngraber; and numerous other loving relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis, parents, and sister, Margrette Wilson. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2008, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel. A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m., Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
