Lucille Ellen Dobbins Haley, 95, entered her final rest on December 1, 2013 surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Frisco, Texas on Thursday, December 5th at 10:00 AM with Pastor Bill Meek and Pastor Doug Miller officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at Mt. Vernon City Cemetery at 2:30 PM on Thursday.
Lucille was born on October 21, 1918 in Chadron, Nebraska to Walter and Amanda (Martens) Dobbins. She attended rural schools and boarded in town to attend Chadron High School. She went to work at a small lunch counter, later moving across the street to work at Ben Franklin Five and Dime, where she worked several years until employed at the J.C. Penny store where she received a raise of one dollar a week.
She married Sgt. Truman Wayne Haley on June 1, 1944 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived on many military bases in the United States and spent 3 years in France. Truman and Lucille were blessed with five children; Larry, Charles, Marsha, Kevin and Brenda. After Truman’s retirement from the Air Force in 1962, the family moved to Mt. Vernon, Texas. In 1988, they relocated to Frisco to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Lucille’s passion was her family. She never missed sending a card to them for any special occasion. She loved teaching her grandchildren how to crochet and embroider. She crocheted afghans for all her grandchildren upon their high school graduation. She also enjoyed nurturing her flower gardens, canning, needlework and playing dominoes at the Senior Center.
While living in Mt. Vernon, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she worked tirelessly creating craft items to be sold at their annual bazaar. Upon moving to Frisco, she was instrumental in starting the Christmas Bazaar at the First United Methodist Church. The proceeds of these events raised money for their respective building funds. She was a member of the Wesley Sunday School Class where she met and enjoyed many dear friends. For many years, Lucille went to the church every Friday and straightened all the Hymnals and Bibles in the back of the pews in preparation for Sunday Services.
Survivors include Larry and Kay Haley of Collinsville, Charles and Dianne Haley of Prosper, Marsha and Daryl Trent of Frisco, Kevin and Melba Haley of Sulphur Springs, and Brenda and Max Bledsoe of Frisco; sister, Shirley Cuckler of Hutchinson, Kansas; brother, Clayton Dobbins of Riverbank, California. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Dobbins; sister, Helen Redfern, and her husband, Truman Haley.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund in Frisco, Texas.
