Louis Kincaid

Robert Louis Kincaid of McKinney, Texas passed away July 27, 2012 at the age of 90. He was born September 12, 1921 to James Sullivan and Lillie (McClure) Kincaid in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. Louis was saved and baptized as a teenager in the Baptist church. He married Esther Weakes on March 22, 1946 in Gainesville, Texas. He was a godly father and taught his children by example. Louis was a tribal citizen of Chickasaw Indian Nation and a past member of the Lions Club in Sherman, Texas. He worked for Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home for 45 plus years. Louis enjoyed collecting coins, woodworking, repairing clocks and antiques. He was a devoted fan of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and OU Sooners.

Louis entered the United States Navy in November 1942. Following his training as a Pharmacists Mate he achieved the rank of third class petty officer and was assigned to LST 422.   He served his county proudly during World War II. The morning of June 6, 1944, Louis and 150 U.S. Army Rangers waited in a tank aboard a landing ship carrier for the shelling to let up before unloading the tanks and Rangers on the beach at Normandy. His ship was off the coast for four days taking on and treating the wounded. The LST made three trips across the English Channel taking wounded to the English hospitals and returning with supplies. Following D-Day he returned to the US and was assigned to LST 322. Louis soon found himself in the Pacific Theater where his ship transported troops and equipment to Guadalcanal, Australia, China and Okinawa. He was in Nagasaki, Japan just two weeks following the dropping of the atomic bomb.

Petty Officer First Class Louis Kincaid received bronze stars and good conduct medals for his service during the European and Pacific Theater Operations. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in November 1945.

He is survived by his children, Robert Louis Kincaid, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Fort Smith, Arkansas, James Branum Kincaid and wife Linda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Kay Ann Kincaid Porter and husband Rusty of Saginaw, Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and niece, Janice Heeley and husband Jim of Plano, Texas.

Louis preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther Kincaid; brother, Roy and sister, Wanita Kincaid.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2012 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment will be held at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. the funeral home.
