Lou Ann Cook

Lou Ann (Smith) Cook of McKinney, Texas passed away on July 26, 2015 at the age of 77. She was born on August 1, 1937 on a ranch near Abilene, Texas, to Graden and Bertha (Riley) Smith in Shackleford County, Texas. Lou Ann grew up in Hamby, Texas where she attended schools and later graduated from Abilene High School in 1955. She attended McMurray University for two years. While at McMurray, Lou Ann met her future husband, Donald Cook. They were married on April 4, 1958 in Hamby, Texas. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2013. She worked as an administrative assistant most of her life in various capacities. Lou Ann’s first job was with First State Bank of Abilene, Texas. She also worked for Northwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas; Richardson ISD in Richardson, Texas; Scripps-Howard Newspapers in Dallas, Texas; Region VII Education Service Center in Kilgore, Texas and then the majority of her career working at Tyler Junior College where she retired after 16 years of service. Lou Ann was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McKinney, Texas and was very active with the United Methodist Women. She also worked at the Methodist Church where she served as secretary to the administrative board, sang in the choir and served as communion steward for several years. Her hobbies included sewing.

Lou Ann is survived by her daughter, Donna Kelley and husband David; grandchildren, Micah Kelley, Quentin Kelley and Bret Kelley, all of Allen, Texas; sisters, Florine Smith of Hamby, Texas and Recia Clemmer of Midland, Texas; brother, Grady Smith of Granbury, Texas; several nieces and nephews, Monty Clemmer, Brad McIver, Tami Knight, Melinda Salyer and Shannon Hoover and a host of other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a son, Terry Cook.

A memorial service will be held August 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 315 North Church Street, McKinney, Texas 75069.
