Mrs. Linda Diane McCarty-Royer, age 50, former resident of McKinney, Texas for 20 years, currently of Ravenna, Texas passed away April 14, 2006, at her home. She was born February 28, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas to Leslie Rush and Peggy Jo (Payne) McCarty. On September 11, 1983, she married Douglas Fred Royer in Ft. Worth, Texas. Mrs. Royer was a professional sports massage therapist. She is survived by her husband, Doug; daughters Kacey and Catrina Royer of McKinney; parents Rush & Peggy McCarty of Saraland, Alabama; and sister Cheryl of Saraland, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her brother Leslie McCarty. Many know Linda as a business owner in historic downtown, where for over nine years she operated a day spa. As a certified massage therapist, Linda specialized in sports massage and often assisted athletes with the Dallas Mavericks, The Stars, Dallas Burn and individual players. Her continued training made Linda one of the best therapists in the metroplex. Linda was well known as an advocate for the schools in McKinney and a tireless community fixture. She championed a title nine investigation to bring fairness and equality to female athletes in McKinney. Along with her husband Doug, Linda served as a volunteer and on the board of the PTO for several consecutive years. Linda's courage and sense of justice were often a focus of her energy. City government was a main interest and Linda supported many officials seeking public office. She ran for city council twice and although she was defeated, she desired to give voters a choice as well as raise civic awareness. She earned the respect and admiration of many. Whether she was encouraging others to vote for public bond issues to benefit the community, or lend her support to LULAC, Linda touched this community with her energy and caring. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2006 in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. Danny Buster officiating.
