Lillian Lynge Hefner

Lillian Lynge Hefner, age 84, passed away October 5, 2005 at Homestead Nursing Facility of McKinney. Born April 3, 1921, she was the daughter of Oscar and Tommie Lynge. As a valedictorian graduate of Allen High School and a Baylor University graduate in May 1942, Lillian enlisted in the Navy Waves in March 1943. An officer in Ship Stores, she assisted in the loading of vessels for the Normandy invasion. In 1945 she performed the same task in Honolulu, Hawaii for the occupation of Japan. On June 1, 1946, she married Roy Allan Hefner at her home in Allen. For fifty-eight years they enjoyed their lives together until the death of Roy December 5, 2004. Lillian began her teaching career in the 1960’s in the Richardson Public schools; then, spent thirteen years as professor of journalism at Texas Women’s University. Lillian Hefner is survived by her sons, Milton Hefner of Dallas and Dean R. Hefner and wife, Mitzi of Denton; grandchildren, Chrys Jackson of Denton and Andrea Carr of Morristown, Tennessee; step-grandchildren, Clifford Arthur of Denton and Jennifer Allgood of Charleston, South Carolina; great grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Carr and Joey Carr of Morristown and Elijah and J.J. Jackson of Denton; step grandchildren, Jessica, Jerica and Jada Allgood of Charleston; sister, Jo Lynge Roberts and husband, Bob of Edinburg, Texas; and brother, Ed Lynge and wife, Jane of Allen; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. So strong was their faith in God that their influence was felt at every level of several north Texas Baptist Churches; they were last members of Southmont Baptist Church in Denton, Texas. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Monday October 10, 2005, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. James Cooper officiating. Interment will follow at Allen Cemetery. Viewing is welcome Sunday with no set time for visitation.
