Leroy Mills, age 90 of Richardson, Texas passed away August 2, 2011 in Richardson, Texas. He was born on November 16, 1920 in Celina, Texas to Walter and Jean (Applebee) Mills. He married Lera D. Howell on January 14, 1939. Shortly afterward he moved to Pampa, Texas to play baseball in the Texas League. With the onset of WWII, he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Kailua until the end of the war. Upon his discharge in December, 1945, he returned to the Dallas area and went to work for Sears Roebuck. In 1957 he joined a small, emerging electronics company in Dallas named Texas Instruments. He moved to Richardson, Texas in 1959 when TI relocated there and spent 25 years with the company until his retirement in 1982. After retirement he engaged in several volunteer activities, but mainly pursued his true passion - golf. He was a member of the Arapaho First United Methodist Church in Richardson. He is survived by his sons, Travis Mills and wife, Bobbie of McKinney, Wesley Kent Mills and wife, Deanie of Hermleigh, Texas, BG (R) Richard Mills and wife, Charlotte of Damon, Texas; daughter, Y. Kay Hale of Richardson, Texas; seven grandchildren, Major Travis Mills, Major Troy Mills, Dustin Mills, Jessica Mills, Alana Hale, Aubrey Hale Miller and Michael Hale; four great-grandchildren, Cadence, Emerson, Taylor and Austin and a number of nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lera D. Mills; parents, Walter and Jean Mills; brother, J.P. Mills and sister, Mattie Phillips. The family will receive friends during a Visitation to be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 beginning at 6:00 PM at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:0 AM at the Funeral Home on Friday, August 5, 2011 with Rev. Jack Soper and Pastor Cliff Lester officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Leroy's name to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital.
